CEDAW Committee starting work on General Recommendation on Article 2 of the CEDAW Convention (i.e. State obligation to eliminate discrimination against women).

At its 30th Session in January 2004, the CEDAW Committee decided to begin elaboration of a new General Recommendation, on Article 2 of the CEDAW Convention (i.e. State obligation to eliminate discrimination against women). Work on this will commence at the Committee's 31st Session, scheduled to take place from 6 to 23 July 2004. The Committee welcomes submissions by NGOs on the subject of the proposed General Recommendation.
