Global South Women’s Forum 2020: Disrupting Macroeconomics

2021

The fifth Global South Women’s Forum (GSWF), themed ‘Disrupting Macroeconomics’, took place from 14-18 December 2020 as an online festival of myriad formats including panel discussions, talks and training workshops, screenings, and strategy sessions. It marked the end of an extraordinarily difficult and challenging year on a high note by celebrating Global South women’s solidarity and organising. It focused particularly on issues related to macroeconomics, power and justice, and challenged us to reimagine a just recovery that will enable communities in the Global South to emerge from the hardship and devastation that they faced as a result of the pandemic and the measures to combat it. This graphic report by Sonaksha Iyengar beautifully captures the forum’s complexities as a space to centre Global South women’s struggles, share their experiences and collectively craft strategies for achieving a re-imagined feminist new normal.
